Q:do you happen to have a handy dandy guide for making Cucumber Quest OCs?
I can’t stop laughing
Q:There's the original Megami Tensei OVA, the Tokyo Revelations OVA, the 1st Devil Children anime, the second one following DemiKids, Persona Trinity Soul, Persona 4 The Animation, Devil Survivor 2 The Animation, Persona 3 Movies, and Persona 4 The Golden Animation? Those are all the Megaten animes right?
I was gonna joke that there’s gonna be a P4 Arena anime too BUT IT’S NO JOKE http://www.negadesignworks.com/p4u/
>Persona 4 Arena is getting an anime
Jesus Christ ATLUS, how many more adaptations/spinoffs/cashgrabs of Persona 4 are you going to make? It was a great game but come on!
All this time and money spent milking Persona 4 is time and money that could go toward Persona 5 or another mainline Shin Megami Tensei game. Doesn’t help that having mainline SMT IV on 3DS gave some people the impression that it wasn’t a primary concern like earlier console SMT titles.
Persona 4 used to be the Persona that I really liked. That’s not the case anymore, I actually kind of despise the series now. Atlus’ recent actions are really depressing. On one hand we have stuff like Soul Hackers 3DS which is great, and then they churn out Persona 4 Golden now with Lightnin-er, Marie, and really epic memes like fsteak!
The Persona series is really flawed, which is fine, but they keep hammering that franchise out instead of bringing us more SMT, which feels waaaay more refined (obviously because it’s not dabbling in two genres, it’s a straight up RPG) and it’s depressing as fuck watching them give SMT the cold shoulder, and then when they do release it, water it down a ton for more recent fans.
Soul Hackers was great, and I’m glad we finally got it, but it was clear that it needed some more time in QA. Some demon conversations had bugged line spacing, and a few of the demon and fusion sword descriptions are outright broken. I don’t remember if Soul Hackers was pre- or post-P4 milking, but it’s definitely an an example of something that was deserving of extra time.
Hell, even Persona is getting shafted. We didn’t get the PSP version of P2: Eternal Punishment, and the PSP version of Persona 1 had its entire soundtrack replaced because Shoji Meguro was given way more influence over it than he had on the PS1 original and decided changing the entire tone and genre of the game’s soundtrack was a great idea. I guess that’s not directly related to P4 milking, but the new soundtrack IS more in line with Persona 3 and 4 and it’s a dumb thing to do anyway.
Marie in Persona 4 Golden is probably the greatest sin Atlus has committed in their eternal P4 milking and the main reason I will not be buying P4 Golden if I ever get a Vita. Between being horribly written, generally unlikeable, maximum Mary Sue in that she is apparently LITERALLY A GOD, and completely mandatory for certain holiday events(I hear you HAVE to go with her on Valentine’s day or something) and the Golden-exclusive extra dungeon, I’d say she’s even worse than Lightning. At least Lighting (for the time being) is contained within her own, not-worth-playing trilogy of disappointment, even if said trilogy did push back other worthy releases. Marie is being constantly shoved down our throats and actively tarnishes an otherwise great game.
*correction: P4 Arena is getting a stage play not animu*
Soul Hackers 3DS came at an unfortunate time: 2 months after Etrian Odyssey IV, and 3 months before Shin Megami Tensei IV. I’m sure it had a pretty quick turnaround to get released in that time frame and not obstruct the SMT IV hype train.
I caught a few errors in Devil Survivor 1/2 too where lines of untranslated text was left behind/triggered by a specific conversation branch. Certainly nothing as bad as bugged line spacing or outright broken text boxes though. I don’t mind it so much because debugging something as massive as an RPG isn’t an easy job especially if it has to be done quickly.
I think the recent games have been less buggy than remakes like Soul Hackers though, because (I assume) the development team making the titles now have come a long way from the slipshod manner they handled them back in the PS1/Saturn era. I mean, read about how Persona 2: Innocent Sin handled all their ingame conversations (at the very bottom). Just thousands and thousands of duplicated instances, cloning the exact same room but changing the party’s conversation and then making that a new room! That’s the epitome of slipshod, we-need-this-shit-done-fast-and-easy, fuck-thinking-about-debugging-it, if-you’re-the-unfortunate-intern-stuck-with-trying-to-read-and-fix-this, good-fucking-luck. If it was done now, the room would always be the same and the game would just check flags for where your progress was, then load different scripts for the character dialogue instead of HANDMAKING A SPECIFIC SPECIAL NEW INSTANCE OF THAT ROOM FOR WHATEVER WEIRDLY SPECIFIC CONVERSATION YOU WOULD NEED, DEPENDING ON WHAT SPECIFIC TEAM CONFIGURATION YOU HAD.
Oh my god, just thinking about that is blowing my mind.
Anyway, you should check out Golden! They’ve made the game even easier, added some neat non-obtrusive multiplayer elements, made a new UI (I prefer the original P4’s though), added a buncha events, balanced the battle system, made Persona fusion/skill inheritance easy as hell, and basically rounded out the entire experience to be as smooth and accessible as possible.
Or, you know, fuck it and play Nocturne again becauseitsthebest
This. THIS. FUCKING THIS!!!
Persona ain’t bad, but it’s no goddamn Shin Megami Tensei. Give me a fucking console mainline SMT, Atlus. FUCKING DO IT.
I have nothing to say about Ferguson or the storm-trooper police that are basically holding America at gunpoint. It is a situation that is SO completely fucked up, that no amount of clowning antics or intelligent satire will make it fun to read about. Even Stephen Colbert can’t make me laugh about it. The more you know about it, the angrier you get.
Eh, John Stewart made me laugh about it, though the humor wasn’t so much about the situation than the people fanning the flames.
Then again, at this point in my life I’m just so inured to bullishit that the only way I can feel about anything is to laugh at it.
